[00:00:00] Welcome to another episode of Financial S Nickens. I'm your host, Elisa McCabe, and today we're going to be talking about a subject that has had a lot of conversation around it, and we are going to talk about finding the right employees and where to find them. So in today's competitive job market, finding employees who align with your culture and your mission can be a daunting task.
It is really difficult to find people out there in any industry. Every industry is having a real struggle finding employees. So we have employed. Creativity and a strategic approach to reach out and attract, to reach out in different places and attract those individuals who possess the right skills and mindset to our firm.
And I wanted to tell you what we've done. This [00:01:00] is definitely how we have found amazing employees. And if you doubt it, talk to people on our team. Our team are happy employees. They love working here, and they are. A right fit for our culture. So I have four thing, four tips to give you on where to find employees and, and what makes a good employee for you.
So think beyond the traditional job boards. We have platforms out there like Indeed, ZipRecruiter, and LinkedIn, and those are really popular places to do job postings and they often have a flood of applicants. Who are not totally qualified, which is why I have a real problem with it. So you could also, instead of using those, or in addition to using those go to industry specialists.
So for our industry, Robert Ha. Is an accounting specialist, so they have a lot of accounting people and we can actually ask for [00:02:00] specific things, or you could go to another, to a forum that is industry specific. And for niche industries, thinking outside the box and employing unique recruitment strategies are gonna help you to find those unique people.
The next thing you wanna do, number two. Actually, this should be number one, to be honest. You need to define your ideal employee. You need to find the person on your team who is the rockstar, best person on the team. Totally amazing. Kills it. Hopefully have five of them and do things to find out. What makes them an exceptional fit for your organization?
Do personality tests and then make sure you find out why, what traits they have and why they align so well with your culture and your mission. And then by focusing on these characteristics when you're looking at candidates, it'll help you to find a much better match. [00:03:00] Number three, tap into online communities.
We use this a lot and I have to tell you, my best employees have come from these online communities. It, what we did is we explored spaces that we knew we hung out in when we first started. I mean, it was just me and like one other employee, so where were we gonna look? So we realized that we hung out on all these mom sites, and so we started posting there.
We got these amazing women who were either stay-at-home moms had been out of the workforce for a little while, but they had accounting backgrounds and they loved the work they did as accountants. And they, they truly loved their professional side and wanted to get back to it, but they couldn't see how they could do both be a good mom or whatever they were doing and have their professional life.
And we provided that and we got. Amazing candidates from there. So some of the [00:04:00] other places that you can start with, I mean, we were just lucky enough that we found this, you know, early on, ask your current employees your great, amazing current employees. Where do they hang out online? Where are they going to, are they in book reading groups?
We actually did a, a survey among our team, and we found out that our team loves mystery novels. How can that be? It was like 80% of the team loved mystery novels, so maybe you would go online to a mystery novel site and maybe if they allow it post a job. Because that's what you're looking for and it really puts you in chart.
It puts you in, connect with people who may not be actively searching for jobs on traditional platforms, and it allows you to expand your talent pool. Some people may not even realize the offerings that you have and think Nothing that I want is out there. And because they may see all these traditional [00:05:00] jobs that are available, and they may not realize that you have these unique offerings that they would love.
All right, so number four, and this is powerful harness referrals from your team. So one way that we have really been able to excel our hiring process is to tap into our current employees. So we ask our current employees to, you know, give us recommendations and happy employees tend to surround themselves with like-minded individuals that share their same values and ideals.
And so encourage your team to refer potential candidates and leverage their networks. Word of mouth referrals can bring in high quality applicants who are more likely. To align with your company's culture and values, and then you can reward your employees, which is such a cool thing to do. You can have them, you can give them a bonus for bringing people in [00:06:00] or paid time off or some sort of incentive that they, if they bring in these top quality employees, that you reward them.
So it's win-win. They're happy to work for you, and they wanna bring in people that they like. Because they're gonna have to work with them. So it's a win-win situation. So finding these employees is really challenging, but with a mix of creativity and strategic thinking and leveraging your existing team, you can create a really talented workforce that is going to make your company go into the next stage with great.
I'm gonna start that over. Embrace these unconventional. Methods and tap into online communities and prioritize employee referrals. To attract individuals who not only possess the required skills, but resonate with your company's [00:07:00] culture and mission. And by investing time and effort in your recruitment process, you will set the stage for a vibrant, harmonious team that drives the success.
